I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of Habitat for Humanity’s “home builds and I was truly inspired how families are given the opportunity to own an affordable home and become financially stable and less reliant on social services. Successful applicants must volunteer at least 500 hours of their time to building their home. On top of this, many of these families are single parents with more than one child to balance. Couple other interesting facts:
* Many Habitat families move from subsidized rent into home ownership and become tax payers, rather than using social services that are funded by tax-payer dollars * There is a 60 per cent reduction in food bank usage by Habitat partner families * 70 per cent of partner families donate time and money to charities
Please consider helping me support low income families with the gifts of dignity and happiness, and the opportunity to become engaged, contributing members of our community!
